Oops it's been a while since we've updated this. Been busy with a lot of things which we can of course talk in this blog. Before we do that however just wanted to update all on where we are in the season, in case you were planning on a visit to Sun Xi & Xi Shack. (Yes?!)

Below is a table that indicates we are just about entering the last month of our 3 month "low" season.

Depending on your interests in visiting us, generally the weather is warmer and sunnier from around March through to September and then from October to February it is a little less warm and likely to be wetter.

I kid you not. Whilst I didn't actually see this exact fella, just 15 feet from the Xi Shack jetty last Saturday morning June 7th around 09:30 - it was pretty much like it - just a tad smaller.

They have become quite a feature of the bar and at times it is reported that there can be many at one time. Not sure what's attracting them. Perhaps they come to smell the coffee or freshly baked bread!

So when is the best time to come?

Now that all depends on exactly what you want to do - either up in the cool mountains in Lepanto at Sun Xi Resort - or down at the hot and humid sea-side in Alegria at Xi Shack.

For Xi Shack it helps of course to know what the tide and wind conditions are, and this is what I am going to post here for you to help "pick your dates"

For swimming, sun-bathing and generally messing about in, on and under the water at Xi Shack the months of March through to September are a lot better than October through February. See our earlier posting on the seasons.

Also with 3 metre tides between LOW and HIGH water it can be a disappointment if you've come along way to find out that the high tide is around midnight and there is only 18 inches of water above the corals that day.

So here are some good swimming days and times at Xi Shack in the coming months:

Seasons at Sun Xi Resort & Xi Shack

We have finally worked out our seasons and post them here for your booking consideration. They are based on the sun's apparent annual movements between the Tropic of Cancer at 22 degrees North of the Equator and the Tropic of Capricorn at 22 degrees South of the Equator. Cebu lies approx 10 degrees North of the Equator and is therefore almost exactly halfway between the Equator and the Tropic of Cancer. Hence we can determine that on May 6th and August 6th each year the sun will be directly overhead Cebu at 12:00 noon - and these technically should be the longest days of sunlight, and hence the hottest days of the year.

Here's a clue

The sunlight is shimmering off the calm seas
From where I am the island of Negros makes up the horizon
Quiet waves can be heard coming up the sea wall.

Ladies and Gents, today I am in Xi Shack, our latest Sun Xi Ventures project.

We journeyed down the mountain into the town of Alegria and onto to the seafront where we have set up our very own beach bar.

Nothing to fancy, a bamboo building, a bar with a variety of cold drinks and selected cocktails. A couple deck chairs and our own exclusive beach. Just the way a beach bar should be.

The opening ceremony took place two nights ago, and what an event it was!

Close friends and the folk of Alegria made up the crowd of about 100 people. Among attendance was the parish Father, and the Mayor and his other half.

About 7pm they cut the ribbon signifying our official opening and boom! fireworks painted the shore front skies.

The night followed with much merry drinking of the Xi Shack cocktail, and lots of dancing to the mixing of none other than MOR's James Spider once again.

On the whole we are very pleased with the establishment of the Xi Shack, as it once again invests in Alegria tourism and we see it as a great way of generating interest and awareness of Sun Xi Resort.

Spot of Glamping anyone?

Hello all

It has come to our recent attention that the type of atmosphere/theme we are establishing at Sun Xi Resort, is very similar to a trend of holidaying thats catching on quite rapidly in the USA and Europe.

A concept known as Glamping, essentially "glamorous" + "camping". Here are a few articles we found whilst googling:

Hello all

Happy 08/08/08 to you all. As we all know the world is set to celebrate the Olympics hosted by Beijing this month, however over the past weekend we had our own reasons for celebration.

Lani's 35th birthday bash, and what an event it was!

The evening started with a VIP dinner for our local dignitaries. This was also our team member's first try at catering services. I'm happy to report that our team of miss matched members did very well and got some valuable experience out of it.

The dinner was a buffet of local delicacies prepared by our new chef who started cooking at 10 pm the night before! (The cooking finished 5 minutes before the gates opened) Amongst the delicious dishes, there were 6 whole roasted pigs! Needless to say there was plenty of left overs, which I'm sure our team were quite happy about.

Following the dining, the party shifted to our new utility hut for a disco. As part of our phase two construction, six new guest chalets are going up as well as a central bar/reception and restaurant. The past two weeks we have accelerated the progress of this structure so that we could use it for this disco.

What made this disco even more special was that we had hired the services of a professional radio DJ to DJ at little old Sun Xi Resort. The jockey was "James Spider Kaka" from ABS-CBN network radio: MOR 97.1FM.

It's great to be able to say Sun Xi Resort helped put Lepanto/Alegria on the radar by bringing in professional "celebs."

There was lots of dancing and it goes without saying a lot of drinking, and in the end I feel it was a good night for both guests and team members of the Sun Xi Resort.

However, the celebrations were not over. We were awoken at about 3am to a choir who sang their hymns and expressed their birthday wishes in song.

The following day, we managed to tear down the rig of the disco, as well as clean up in time to host some local sporting events in that same utility hut. This saw hundreds more people turn up to enjoy the activities as well as the beautiful weather up at Sun Xi.

So , all in all, not a bad shindig in my opinion. Nothing like turning 35 and having a whole village celebrate it I guess haha!

An update from the mountains

It's still rather surreal to me that I can be sat here at the resort, in the middle of no where, up in the mountains, and be able to update a blog!

Technology eh?

Anyway, as some of you may know there has been so horrible weather in the the region lately and thus we have seen a lot of rain and strong winds up here this past week. In fact as I am sat here typing this bits of paper off my desk are flying around and hitting me in the face.

Still, as long as I am in shelter, it's quite a beautiful sight.

The Resort is moving along in the right direction. We are currently in the process of hiring some more management staff to up the professionalism of the resort.

We have begun phase 2 developments. This consists of six new guest accommodation's and a central unit which will have a new bar, restaurant and check in area. For the guest area , we are toying with the name Kalana-Way Village. This is because Kalana-Way is the name for the local trees that grew in their area, and that the way the units are structured, it will look like its own mini village!

Otherwise it is business as usual up here.

Wuhoh here comes the rain.

Leader turns 50/family visits SunXi Resort

Recently the Sun Xi management's family from England visited the Sun Xi Resort. The posse consisted of Michael Meadows (Nigel's cousin) and wife Vanessa. Thelma and John Ford (Nigel's parents/ Tim's grandparents) David Young, a close friend of Nigel's for many a year. Natasha Ford (Nigel's daughter/Tim's sister)

The past week at the resort , saw much laughter in many various activities. Events from Dolphin watching, to hitting golf balls off our garden. Motorbike cruises and swimming in the gorgeous sea.

Michael celebrated his birthday with us on the 4th of April, where we had a quiet one around the resort. We were fortunate enough to have the weather on our side, so most of us were quite happy to get some tanning in. During the evening, we ventured into Moalboal (two municipals away) for drinks and a seafood dinner.

The highlight of the trip, and I suppose one of the main purposes for the visit from our overseas loved ones, was to celebrate our dear Nigel's half century. Lani and the staff worked a sleepless two days to put on an event that will be remembered. a twenty-four hour epic mini-festival is the best way I can describe it.

It kicked off at 3.30am when we were awoken to the local parish choir, singing beautiful birthday wishes in our lobby area. When Nigel and Michael finally stirred from their rooms and down the stairs, they were each given a garland of fresh flowers, from the choir who stood with candles in hand. A very moving experience.

During the afternoon, friends and near-by officials came up to the resort for a delicious buffet luncheon prepared by the Resort's kitchen.

Finally the day was capped off by a disco taking place at the entrance of the resort, where all had a good time dancing (or attempting to!) for many an hour.

All in all, a very enjoyable week at the Sun Xi Resort, which saw the staff tested, and our guests once again leaving happy with their stay!

Hello all!

Welcome to the Sun Xi Resort Blog.

One may ask, why does a Resort have a blog?

We want to keep you past guests and hopefully future guests informed of the goings-on at the Resort, and a behind the scenes look on what it's like running one.

Sure we could add updates on our main site (www.sunxi-resort.com) but we feel this is a more informal, casual way of interacting.

So...

My name is Timothy Ford, but only my mother calls me that when I'm in trouble. Most people refer to me as Tim, Timmy or Sir. Any of the three make me happy. I have been given the honor and privilege of being appointed the General Manager of Sun Xi Resort. What do I do exactly? well I am constantly traveling between three key locations of the Sun Xi Ventures business.

1. Obviously the Resort itself. Whilst there, I ... well I generally manage (haha!) On a more serious level, I plan upcoming events, for example, the local municipality of Alegria, quite often include our Resort as a stop-over for their tourism tours. Therefore I make sure everything runs smoothly (just) on the day. I come from a hospitality background, mainly working bars. Therefore I take quite a keen interest in running our on site bar "The Hearth Bar". Everything from planning stock, to being the mad scientist mixing together all sorts of alcoholic goodness to come up with our monthly cocktail promotions. Whilst not sat in the bar, as cliche as it sounds, I walk around and see where we can improve, this obviously is a never ending task, but one I'm happy to be a part of. Then theres obviously the back room boring stuff of which I will spare you the details.

2. Subic Bay. This is a tourist destination just off Manila. This also happens to be the site of one of our other many business's "Sun Xi Marine" which I am also involved in. Seeing as this blog is for the Resort, I won't go into too much detail here. Basically, Sun Xi Marine focuses on the boating lifestyle, and we have a number of charter operations on the go.

3. Hong Kong. Sun Xi Ventures (the mother company of Sun Xi Resort) is actually a Hong Kong registered business. Whilst in Hong Kong, I tend to work on a lot of the marketing projects for the resort. This is mainly as, currently at the resort we have no internet capabilities, which can be quite a blessing if you are on holiday, but if you are trying to work, this can be quite a hindrance. So whilst in HK, I am constantly online promoting/planning/corresponding because before long, I will be back at the resort (meaning "radio silence").

Initially when I logged onto this, I wanted to make a brief post, this looks like it is shaping into a bit of novel, which will be my cue to sign off. Please check back here and leave your comments, I shall try my best to update this at least once a month, as well as get some of the other senior management to leave their words of wisdom.
